What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable fluid containing a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. Botulinum inhibits communications between nerves and muscles, preventing muscles from making the movements that form wrinkling on the face or neck. Botox also interupts the signal that triggers sweating or muscle spasm. 

Targeting certain muscles with Botox can result in subtle, natural-looking changes to your appearance. Each treatment usually lasts about 3-4 months.

Our office also offers Xeomin, Dysport, and Daxxify. These injectables have similar active components to Botox, with some differences in concentration and length of effect. Your provider will help you compare these products and decide which is best-suited to help you achieve your goals. 

Because Botox and other neurotoxin injectables are not permanent, many patients receive follow-up injections to help maintain their treatment results over time. Your progress will be documented with photographs at each visit. 

What does Botox treat?

We offer Botox, Daxxify, Dysport, and Xeomin for cosmetic and medical purposes. Targeting specific muscles with botulinum toxin causes them to temporarily relax.

Areas you can address cosmetically with these treatments include:

• Chin dimples
• Crow’s feet
• Forehead lines
• Frown lines
• Lines around your mouth
• Banding on the neck

Concerns you can address medically with these treatments include:

• Excess sweating (hyperhidrosis)
• Muscle spasm
• Clenching or grinding of the jaw (temporomandibular joint dysfunction)

Your provider will discuss your specific treatment plan (including injection sites, number of injections, volume of Botox or other product, and length of session) based on your specific goals.

Am I a good candidate for Botox injections?

Before your treatment, you will have a consultation with our board-certified providers to ensure you are a good candidate for Botox, Daxxify, Dysport, or Xeomin injections. We consider multiple factors, including your physical health, your goals, and your age. You might be a good candidate for one of these injectables if you’re:

• Over 18
• Generally healthy
• Not pregnant or breastfeeding
• Not allergic to any of the product ingredients

While Botox and similar products are highly effective at reducing facial lines for months at a time, they do not reduce skin laxity or combat other age-related features, like jowls or age spots.
